MP to produce its own seeds soon

Tuesday, 09 July 2019 | SR | Bhopal

Along with distribution and marketing of certified and high breed seeds to farmers, the Madhya Pradesh State Cooperative Seed Federation will produce seeds too. This decision has been taken in a Board of Directors’ meeting held under the chairmanship of the Minister for Cooperatives Govind Singh and in presence of Minister for Farmers Welfare and Agriculture Development Sachin Yadav at Mantralaya. The brand name of seeds will be ‘Sah-Beej’. A plan has been made to produce seeds from the next Rabi season.

Minister Singh gave directives to give training to members through agriculture science centres to make them competent and empowered. He said that at least one training in a year should be imparted essentially to the members of the societies. A big part of the budget should be spent on the welfare of the farmers. Schemes should be implemented in time and budget amount should not be lapsed.

Minister for Agriculture Sachin Yadav said that seed societies in large numbers should be linked with seed federation and they should be helped in marketing. He laid special emphasis to provide quality seeds to the farmers.

The Principal Secretary Cooperatives and Agriculture Ajit Keshri, Commissioner Cooperative MK Agrawal, Commissioner Horticulture Kavindra Kiyawat and Managing Director of APEX Bank Pradeep Neekhra were also present at the meeting.
